The Ingredients

The ingredients for the lemon tahini yogurt sauce recipe on a wooden table.
  • Plant-based (Greek) yogurt together with the tahini, this is the base of the sauce and makes the sauce light, fresh and creamy.
  • Tahini – adds even more creaminess as well as a nutty flavour.
  • Garlic – we love using raw garlic in sauces just like this one. It gives the sauce just that little bit extra.
  • Lemon – both the juice and zest for some fresh, zingy citrusy taste.
  • Salt – helps to bring out all of those beautiful flavours.

Cooking Tips

  • What type of tahini to use – we pretty much always use raw tahini, which is made from raw sesame seeds rather than toasted/roasted ones. Raw tahini is lighter in color, whereas roasted tahini has a darker color, looking much more like peanut butter for example.
  • Use water as needed – different brands of tahini and yogurt might give different results. So, make sure you look and taste as you go and adjust the amount of water that you need, until the tahini yogurt sauce reaches that perfectly creamy consistency. This is why we always add our water as the last step, as you can always add more water, but never remove water.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Maple syrup – if desired, you can add 1 tbsp of maple syrup to make the sauce a touch more sweet. This will offset the lemon and garlic a little bit. So, if the garlic and lemon taste is a bit too much for your taste, we suggest adding the maple syrup.
  • Cashew butter – you can swap the tahini for cashew butter and still end up with a delicious, creamy sauce.

Description

A creamy, nutty and healthy sauce made with just 5 ingredients in 5 minutes! Lemon Tahini Yogurt Sauce is great with salads, pasta, or as a dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced + zest
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp plant-based greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp tahini
  • 3 tbsp water, add more if needed

Instructions

  1. Add the lemon juice and zest, garlic and salt to a bowl. Stir until combined.
  2. Add the yogurt and tahini and give it a good stir. The lemon juice will thicken up the sauce quite a lot. Don’t worry, this will be offset by adding water in the next step.
  3. Add water 1 tbsp at a time. Stir every time until the sauce reaches a creamy consistency. Add more water if needed.
